Volume 1 - 9th Edition, January 2011

FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK

Hello Adlanders,

Tis the month of January, and by now, most New Year's Resolutions have already been broken. I'm proud to say, I have not broken mine yet. I vowed I'd keep a diary this year, and to date, I've made an entry every day. Lord help me and the creek doesn't rise, I'll be able
to keep it up.

During the month of January, since it's a time of new beginnings, it's time to do away with the old things, and time to start with the new... And this includes relationships. Unfortunately, for some of us, we failed to plan accordingly for expenditures during the holidays, it is easy to overspend, and this creates all kinds of problems including financial ones, which tend to be hard on relationships, especially if one has lost a job.

What is the best way to maintain a solid relationship when times get tough you might say? There are three primary things that work. They include:

Spiritus: The first and primary thing we need to keep straight in our lives is the spiritual aspect of it. So long as we keep our focus on God, and allow Him to be number one in the family, everything else will fall inline.

Mense: It is vitally important to keep our minds active by reading or studying materials that are wholesome. Those of us who spend a lot of time online, keep our minds active continually. We must be careful not to overindulge our time we spend on the computer and sacrifice quality time with our partners. It is good to budget and use a method that allows us to be more productive with the time we spend online, or offline by use of a calendar.

Corpus: The physical aspect is also very important. We need to spend at least 30 minutes daily exercising by getting the old heart rate up above normal. Sweat is good. It helps remove the toxins that build up in our bodies. This can be broken up if need be... It just needs to happen.

There are many other aspects involved, including diet, that could be discussed but, this will do for now. As the month of January, 2011 is almost over, I wish you the best in all your endeavors for the remainder of the year!

Sincerely,

         James Wright

Do clichés, humor or just plain corny ad slogans really work?

Here are some examples of what I am talking about: "The Summer Sales are Really Starting to Heat up!" or "Check out our Vacuums, they Really Suck!" We see and hear these all the time, whether it's TV, Radio, Print or Internet ads.

You would think our instinct is to roll our eyes and maybe let out a chuckle and move on right? The answer surprisingly is no, we may indeed roll our eyes, we may even chuckle out loud, but we do not skip the ad! As a matter of fact, not only do we check out the ad it usually sticks with us for the day we even tell at least a few of our friends and co-workers about it. This is exactly what we want from our ad and if we are clever enough to ensure our brand is related in some positive way, they will remember your company.

If you can come up with an ad that contains even the slightest bit of humor it will usually sell for you. It's easier to see and remember ads when there is humor involved and the type of humor; from slapstick to sarcasm will make most people laugh, moan or smile. Honestly, most of us that face a bad joke will groan but we will remember it.

Now I would not base an entire ad campaign on humorous or clichéd ads, however, now don't laugh, I would definitely include at least one humor ad in my campaign! There is no real downside as funny will sell and if the ad doesn't generate sales it may set up a sale for the next time they see another one of your ads.

Until next time,

Barry Scott

Hello Adlanders,

If anyone has noticed lately, there's becoming a larger presence online at Facebook of Business Entrepreneurs, due to a recent change in policy there. I have not been very active with it until recently, and if you'd care to look at my profile, you'll see I don't have but 310 friends there. Just tonight, I found the group from Adland who have set up office at Facebook. I hope they will accept me!

With that being said, I thought I might bring a few pointers for those who would like to promote Adland on Facebook. There is a new App that just launched before Christmas called FaceBizPro which is designed to help you promote whatever business you'd like. It has a large profile sidebar which makes your ad stand out in the crowd. You can place your link there, as well as a video. As you know, you can substantially increase your sales with the use of video.

This would be a perfect App for Bogdan to promote Adland on Facebook, and it is also a good place to allow folks to discover our Adland Community.

One nice feature about Adland, is the fact there is no limit to how many friends you can have. At Facebook, you can only have 5000. And you can only add 10 new friends per day. With Adland you can add as many friends as want to accept your invitation!

Other places you can promote Adland on Facebook for free, is  through the Notes Page, the Fan Page, and you can also make posts to your Personal page from your Business page. You can make a Business page without having to sign up separately.

I hope this helps a little.  Next month, I believe I will start to interview important people in the Adland Community as Pauline has done in the past. Your feedback is always welcome, and if you'd like to share your profile with me,  just send me a note here at Adland.

Sincerely,

         James Wright
